Au Claire de la Lune

Au Claire de la Lune is a French song my father used to sing for us, as lullaby

Au clair de la lune

Mon ami Pierrot

Prête-moi ta plume

Pour écrire un mot

Ma chandelle est morte

Je n'ai plus de feu

Ouvre-moi ta porte

Pour l'amour de Dieu

That memory inspired the Pierrot necklace.

I asked a friend of mine to be my model.

It came out she was perfectly in the mood. Fairy tale.

Stay tuned!

Florence, 2011. Hackmeeting

No fireworks, then.

There was in fact another and more competitive event ongoing in Florence while I was there!

I'm talking about HACKMEETING, the gathering of the Italian hacker community - this year held in CSA Next-Emerson. Three days to discuss digital capitalism, creative commons, bitcoin, cloud computing, robotics, open source and much more.

Among the most interesting talks and workshops, the one by the guru Richard Stallmann about software freedom; the one by Carlo Formenti, about the social consequences of digital capitalism - and especially on workers; the one by the Spanish Indignados, who presented their alternative social network n-1 y Lorea

But that's nothing, that's what the newspapers has covered.

The phenomenon goes far beyond. What totally moved me was the community itself. I mean, this people is meeting every year from 1998 in a different Italian city. The event is completely self managed - by the community itself - and open to everyone interested, free of charge. It's not that common.
Generally there is also some sort of institutional support behind this stuff.

Those guys are fantastic and their ties incredibly strong - strong of the strength you gain when there is nothing to question about it.

I can't tell you more, since it is not my world, though their work and the way they are together...well, that's definitely inspiring.

Another Long Week End.

Yet my shop goes on vacation for a few days. Sorry about that!

It doesn't seem, staying in Dublin, though from yesterday it's summer...Don't blame me if I take my time!

I'm mediterranean. I need sun, hot climate and siesta after lunch. Sometimes, I even thank the global warming which allows me to have all those conditions together where they should't. I see, it's not fair.

I'll be in my beloved Florence, Italy, for friday is the patron saint feast day - Saint John.

The city will be full of tourists since the florentines are already running away.

No, it's not San Fermin nor Pamplona! Nothing happens but some fireworks at midnight. Basically people hangs about in city center - possibly on the crowded lungarno - waiting for that magic moment, which regularly disappoints. Most common speech among the people afterward? "Last year it was better".

So why do I go? I dunno. Bad habits, I guess.

Have a nice week end you too!

POP UP SHOP, Limerick/ Last call

...So, as all good things, it comes to an end!

The Pop up Shop is going to close the 19th of June, last call at 17.30....

So get down to Bourke's Bar in Catherine Street and have fun with the volunteers that made all this possible!

The ongoing event has had positive responses and captured the attention both of the Limerick Leader and of the Irish Craft Supplement in the Irish Times.

Moreover, Ruth's comments on the recent phenomenon of pop-up shops are at ThePost.ie ...Interesting, isn't it?!

This is the last week end left to browse and buy in the Crafty Ireland Team Pop Up Shop in Limerick, but don't be sad...new crafty events are coming soon!

Stay tuned!

I'm back!

Hi there!

I'm back from a long journey throughout Italy and - while I was on vacation - another wonderful team initiative went on!

This time I'm talking about the Made in Italy team - on Etsy, of course.

Two team members, mother and daughter, owners of the shop Lallacairms and Knittingcate were planning a trip to NYC on their own and suggested the idea of visiting the Etsy Headquarter in Brooklyn, NYC, as ambassadors of the italian crafters!

The captain was enthusiast and at first asked for an invitation to Morgan and then asked for a representative item to each of us.

The great women made 95 awesome cotton minibags - Made in Italy branded  - for the many presents collected this way.

So....Lallacairms, Knittingcate and the little Caterina went to NY and the result was this.

Weird, isn't it?

Stay tuned!
